Saturday, January 28: Volunteer Event - Habitat for Humanity

It is a new year and with that comes new opportunities to help others!  The UM Club LA will be volunteering at The Habitat for Humanity's Home Improvement Store Saturday, January 28 from 10am-2pm.  They will need our help in running the cash registers, unloading trucks, greeting and helping customers and preparing donated items for display.   If you are interested in volunteering with us please contact Beth at beth@umclubla.com

Habitat for Humanity is a wonderful organization that has been helping families since 1990 with their homeownership program.  They build homes for those families who earn 50% less than 50% of the median family income.  The Home Improvement Store recycles overstocked, discontinued, new and used building materials, furniture and home decor donated by manufacturers, stores, contractors and individuals. These donated items are used in two ways: to build simple, decent homes for low-income families and to be resold to the general public to finance Habitat for Humanity building projects.  For more information please visit www.habitatla.org

Monday, July 10: UM Club of LA Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament

On Monday, July 10, 2006, the UM Club of LA hosted our first annual charity golf tournament at Braemar Country Club in Tarzana. The tournament included 18 holes of golf in a scramble format, continental breakfast, BBQ lunch, dinner, tee prizes and competitions for longest drive, straightest drive, putting and more.

Our goal for this tournament was simple: Endow a scholarship so that each year, one Los Angeles-area student can attend the University of Michigan and enjoy the experience and the education that we all had. That means we need to raise money. What better way to raise money than to play golf?

We are proud to report that our inaugural golf tournament was a success!  Be on the lookout for more information for Golf 2007!
